Guidance for the Celebration of First Holy Communion and Confirmation

[In time of COVID-19]

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION {those who have completed the required catechetical formation scheduled for First Holy Communion on 17MAY20 as originally planned}

  1. The First Holy Communion (FHC) Mass on 17MAY20 will be rescheduled. The plan of having a series of Masses specifically for First Communicants with fewer than 10 attendees has been rescinded due to HPCON Charlie directives.
  2. When restrictions on communal gatherings are lifted, a Sunday, after the resumption of Sunday Masses, can be selected for First Holy Communion. The solemnity of Corpus Christi (14JUN20) is the most fitting Sunday. Any Sundays during Easter and Ordinary Time are appropriate also. The date for FHC is yet to be determined.
  3. Submit the required documents: 1) Birth Certificate; 2) Baptismal Certificate; and 3) Intake Form. Fill out the intake form legibly and completely.
  4. A scanned copy of the document will be accepted.
  5. The completed Intake Form, Birth Certificate, and Baptismal Certificate are due to me by email no later than 1700 on 30APR20. Please attached ALL required documentation in one email.

  2. Note AMS priests do not have the faculty to confirm already baptized Catholics. Only a bishop can validly confirm a previously baptized but uncatechized Catholic. Confirmation of a previously baptized Catholic by a presbyter without delegation is INVALID.
  3. Submit the required documents: 1) Birth Certificate; 2) Baptismal Certificate, and 3) Intake Form. Fill out the intake form legibly and completely.
  4. A scanned copy of the document will be accepted.

MINISTRY HOURS REQUIREMENT. Due to movement restrictions, we are modifying modes of fulfilling ministry hours within the confines of our homes.

  1. Watch the Live Stream of Catholic Mass on Sundays with their parents from any online portals (preferably our community live stream). Discuss with your parents what you have learned from that Mass you just watched. For no more than 100 words, write what you have learned at Mass. This will be counted as 2-hours. (1 hour for watching the Mass & 1 hour for the discussion with parents and writing).
  2. Write a thank you letter or love letter to grandparents, parents or those in nursing homes. If the letter is to be mailed and addressed to somebody outside of the household, parents will review the letter for appropriateness before sending it. This will be counted as 1-hour. This does not apply to adult candidates (18 years old +).
  3. Helping parents with house chores. The chores tasking must be directed and supervised by parents as appropriate. This will be counted depending on the length of time the tasking was completed. This does not apply to adult candidates (18 years old +).

 REGULARIZATION OF MARRIAGE {those who have completed their marriage preparation and spiritually prepared to celebrate a Catholic wedding}

  1. You will be scheduled as soon as the restrictions on communal gatherings are lifted. That is prior to the Christian Initiation or Full Communion or Confirmation.
  2. Confession is to take place about an hour before the ceremony.
  3. (2) witnesses (Best Man & Maid of Honor) are required to attend the wedding. Ensure you have them available on short notice. If you need to modify your paperwork to reflect the correct names of witnesses, you may do so by resubmitting the Pre-nuptial Questionnaires.
  4. Those who have not yet completed their marriage preparation (including those with incomplete documentation) will be recycled for next year.

IMPORTANT NOTE If you PCS before you can receive the sacraments, a memorandum of completion will be issued that you can present to the AMS priest or civilian priest at your next assignment.
