Jesus said to them ‘I am the Bread of Life; he who comes to me shall not hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.John 6:35
First Holy Communion is a person’s first reception of the sacrament of the Eucharist. For Roman Catholics, the Eucharist is the central focus of the sacramental life of the Catholic Church. A child, baptized as an infant into the family of God now takes a place at the Lord’s table. This is a significant event for the child, the family, and the parish community as a whole.
Sacramental preparation for First Communion typically starts at age 7 and/or usually 2nd grade. Preparation begins in the early fall and involves parents and children. Prep classes are done in under one (1) year.
CHILDREN/ADULTS 8 YEARS & ABOVE:
First Communion for baptized Catholic children who are older than age 8 or First Communion for children baptized in another Christian denomination who wish to pursue the Catholic faith participate in a process called Rites of Christian Initiation for Adults adapted for Children— also known as Children’s Catechumen and commonly referred to as RCIC.
